Road User Charges

RUC Adjustment Factor

Since 2007 the government have implemented increases in road user charges every year except 2011.

On the 18th December 2012 the then National Government Minister of Transport, Gerry Brownlee, announced that road user charges will be increased on the 1st July each year until 2016 to contribute to the cost of the upgrades to roads of National Significance. There have been seven major roading projects across the country that fall into this category and are currently in progress. Since the last increase a hold on any additional charges had been put in place but the current Labour Government have re-introduced the programme of incremental RUC’s which they say is to continue the funding of these projects.

This surcharge will be operating separately from our existing fuel surcharge and be applied to the base price independently.

For example:

If the base price is $10.00, VFF is 7.5% for the month and RUC’s are 4.2% then the total price would be calculated as follows:
$10  x  (7.5%  +  4.2%)  =  $11.17

The RUC surcharge will not change on a monthly basis and will only be adjusted in line with publicly announced RUC increases.
